I control pretty much everything...... But the shoutbox's more important than anything else, yes. **nods**

Upgrade

Today we'll be upgrading our portal software in order to fix various bugs and increase security. We'll try to limit downtime, but chances are we'll go offline for some time in order to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Yet another edit: I'd appreciate it if you all could keep an eye out for any and all errors or weird things, even the small ones, and post them in the forum. Keep it to one thread please, to keep things tidy. Thank you.

DGPlayers

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ!

It is with some reluctance that I make this announcement. Some time ago, our host contacted us about an unpaid bill for the provided services. After contacting Deek about this, he recently informed me that, due to personal issues, he will not be able to continue as patron of DGPlayers.net.

After much deliberation among ourselves, we, admins, decided it is necessary to ask for the support of the community. None of us is currently able to pay for both the unpaid and future bills by themselves, and we hope that with your help, we can. It is only because of Deek's generosity that we have been able to run for so many years without asking for donations from the community, but we have now reached a point where we have no other choice.

Our idea is as follows: We will open a PayPal account with the sole purpose of receiving donations and paying for hosting. In the navigation bar on the left, a PayPal donation button will appear. Using the same secure method as DG uses for premium subscriptions, people will be able to donate as much as they see fit, as opposed to a fixed subscription amount. For extra transparency, a public, anonymous list of donations will be kept up-to-date by the admins to allow you to see how much comes in and goes out - again, it is not our intention to make a profit, only to pay for our hosting.

Also, we'd like to emphasize that donating will NOT give you any special rights or privileges here. People should only donate because they wish to support this website, there will be no extra benefits whatsoever.

Please understand that this is not a step we're making lightly. We would much rather have preferred to continue running as we have in the past, without relying on help from others. Unfortunately, our choice was between this or shutting down the whole network. You can probably guess which of those two options we prefer.

Should you have any questions, please open a thread in the forum.

FTP access

Greetings everyone,

due to a our host making changes to the server environment, we are required to change ALL FTP passwords. If all subdomain owners could contact me with their preferred new password, I'll update it, after which you will once more have access to our FTP server. Until the password has been reset, it will be impossible to login to our server.

On a side note, in the case of a guild subdomain, I'll only handle requests from the guild leader, not from any other members.

Enchanters Academy

Greetings everyone,

most of you will have read this announcement on the official DG forum by Miranda. It reads:
Quote:
Please be very careful what you post on sites that are associated with DG (such as those hosted by the ever excellent DGplayers.net) We should not have to remind you of this, but links that contain -- for example -- nude pictures, even if art-y ones. . or other such things. . are perhaps not the most suitable things to post.

Thank you for applying common sense to this = )

I would like to clarify the situation. It was brought to our attention that a forum we host was suffering from a long tradition of moderator's neglect, as well as admins posting aforementioned links leading to inappropriate content.

I am disappointed both by the admins involved, and the fact that this was not brought to us sooner. We admins are unable to monitor all our hosted sites, and rely on you, the community, to let us know if we are required to undertake action. There is no place for sexual content in DG or the DG community, and we see it as our duty to uphold these ideals to make DG a safe place for all people, indiscriminate of their age, and I ask all of you to help us doing so. I give you my word that whenever you report anything to us, that we will look into the matter, undertake action if we deem it necessary, and will not disclose your identity without your express permission.

The forum of the Enchanters Academy will remain locked until we have decided about it's future.

Addition:: The EA forum is open once again.

Anti-Spam measure

Hello everyone,

it is with great pleasure that your local admin team releases a new anti spam measure for ALL our forums. For those running IPB (Those who did not get upgraded last month), we have already successfully tested this on some boards, and both our main forum here, as well as AVE's forum, have been spam-free ever since - and that without requiring administrator approval for every new account!
For boards running phpBB (The ones we upgraded), we have not been able to test it yet, but I do not expect it to be any different from IPB boards.

This modification requires some steps to be taken by local board admins. I would like to ask administrators of all individual boards to do the following from their forum ACP:
For those running IPB:
Go to Users and Groups --> Custom Profile Fields --> Add New Field, and enter the following values:
Field Title: Character ID
Field Type: Text Input
Max Input: 7
Include on Registration page: YES
Field MUST be completed: YES
Hide from Member profile: NO
Member can edit field: YES
click Add Field

For those running phpBB:
Go to Users and Groups --> Custom Profile Fields
Create a new field with name Character ID and type "Single Text Field" (NOT 'numbers'!)
Set the following values
Display Profile Field: YES
Visibility Option: Required Field
Make sure the field does NOT have a default value.

Once you have completed these steps, please send me a pm on this board telling me you have done so. I will then be able to modify your board files.

Should you have any questions regarding aforementioned instructions, please send me a message.
